The Culinary Institute offers an ideal environment for culinary learning from the passionate exchange of ideas to unparalleled educational facilities. Our organization managed the construction of multiple projects at the Institute.

Student Residences
The administration wanted to enhance the current campus to reflect their vision and the richness, history and quality the institution represents. A focus of the master plan was the development of a phased housing development based upon a clustered village concept that reflects more of an Adirondack mountain-like lodge than a college dormitory (see photo above).

These new “lodge” style structures fit comfortably in the rolling, wooded terrain at the north end of the campus. The main entryway on the first floor conveniently leads to gathering spaces for dining, studying and socializing. The small footprint of the buildings was instrumental in creating this relaxed “fit” by minimizing site disruption and allowing the creation of a quiet, compact residential cluster with ample adjacent areas for walking trails and recreational spaces.

Pavarini provided construction management services for four new lodges totaling 98,000-SF of premier student living space. Each 24,500-SF lodge dormitory has 17 four-student suites, two-story kitchens equipped with three five-burner stoves, a cooking island, prep area and a dining area. The lodges are heated and air-conditioned by a geothermal heating system, which earned the school a substantial cost rebate through the New York Energy Smart Loan Fund administered by the New York State Energy and Development Authority.

Anton Plaza
A focus of the master plan was the development of Anton Plaza, an attractive terrace plaza with expansive green spaces and manicured gardens. The plaza overlooks the Hudson River and sits atop a new parking garage structure. Pavarini provided construction management services for both the plaza and the parking structure. The plaza features 32,500-SF of landscaped terrace where banquets and other special outdoor events. The 60,000-SF underground parking structure consists of two decks and provides an additional 146 parking spaces for visitors. When not used for special events, the plaza and its centerpiece fountain serves as a gathering area for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Bake Shop #7
This 3,000-SF project consisted of removing and replacing all ceilings, lighting, HVAC systems and baking ovens. The project team relocated a three bay sink and Corian capped interior knee wall alterations. The scope also included the installation of two new three-door freezers.

Skills Kitchens
Directly across the hall from bakeshop “7” is the skills kitchen. This project involved removing and replacing all ceilings and lighting. A new three-foot wide 700-SF tile border travels around the perimeter of the kitchen representing the school’s new colors. The team removed and relocated six sinks, including four three-bay sinks and installed new ones. New Corian capped the interior knee walls and the scope called for two new granite workstations. New equipment installed in the skills kitchen included four eight-burner oven units and six new roll-in freezers.

Angell Hall
This project entailed the renovation of 60 rooms during the school’s “down time.” The bathrooms received all new fiberglass shower stalls, shower valves, shower doors, vanities, sinks, toilets, vinyl flooring, toilet accessories and painting. The bedroom work included new paint, lighting and window blinds.

Roth Hall
This project encompassed five hallways in the second and third floor of the Roth Hall administration offices totaling 2,700-SF. The work included new carpet runners and new wood borders around the carpet. We installed a new carpet in the student dining area. Additionally, new floor cabinetry and Corian tops were installed and are being used as serving area for drink dispensing machines, an ice machine and glass dispensing racks.

We also renovated 2,500-SF of two main floor corridors. This entailed demolition of drop ceilings and ceramic wall tile. The renovation in this corridor exposed brick walls and the limestone around windows, which is consistent with the rest of Roth Hall. The team relocated electric panels from the corridors into kitchens at three locations.
