Project Information
Owner: Vornado Realty Trust
Architect: Brennan Beer Gorman
Role: Construction Manager
Contract Value: $12 Million
Size: 42,000-SF/3 stories
Completion Date: September 2002
This project involved the new construction of a retail building at 435 Seventh Avenue in New York City on a very fast-track schedule and located on an extremely active, congested, and pedestrian-dense intersection, across the street from Macy’s Department Store, Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden. We completed our work in fourteen (14) weeks in order to meet the terms of the lease agreement. Approximately 50,000 people per day during rush hour pass this busy transit hub. New building construction consisted of a structural steel frame with concrete on metal deck and clad with a glass curtainwall system. The new building is adjacent to an existing subway entrance, and therefore required the construction of a new entrance to the subway within the building footprint. The design of the structure will enable our client to construct a 20-story glass and steel office tower atop the existing retail store at a future date.
